Local man saves his dog!

A local man, from Kingsthorpe, Northampton, has saved his doggie from drowing in a frozen lake!! Michael Hollowell was walking his black lab Millie, near a frozen lake at Sixfields when she got tunnel-vision chasing a duck & ran on to the ice...only for it to crack!! Being just 10ft away from her, Michael just could not stand there and watch her die so he bounded onto the lake himself to grab her, causing the ice to crack further! *gasp* But it was not Michael & Millie's time to go over the RB, as passers by, including heroic ex-lifeguard Duncan Smith, managed to rescue the freezing pair with the help of Millie's lead and a rope. Yaay! Mr Hollowell said that he knows he went completely against all advice by going after her but we can understand why he did so and with no doubt what-so-ever we would do the same!

“I could see Millie was panicking. She was desperately trying to break the ice to get back to shore. I could see she was getting cold and suddenly she stopped moving and rested her head on the ice as if she was exhausted. All I could think about was going in to get her...

“I don’t condone what I did... I’m old enough to know not to go out on frozen water and they always say an animal’s an animal, at the end of the day, and not worth risking your own life for... But watching her like that... I couldn’t watch her die. I felt I had to do something....
“She was only 10ft from shore and I thought if the ice did break I would be able to get back. But the cold and the shock made it seem so much further... I had a lucky escape and if I had been any further from shore I don’t think I would have stood a chance.”
Both Michael & Millie are fine after their dramatic rescue & we wish all involved a very Merry...and ice-free!...Christmas
If you are walking near a frozen lake or river, please keep doggie on their lead for everyone's safety!

Hero doggies!

Check out these two gorgeous German Shepherd's... they are real-life Lassie dogs! So clever & brave!

Their owner, Les, is diabetic and when they were out for a walk together he slipped into a diabetic coma! Clever Ellie (left) and Jones knew something was very wrong and while Ellie stayed by his side and licked his face to try and keep him conscious, Jones ran home to alert Les' wife Jo. He got their attention and lead them back to Les who made a full recovery. Such clever doggies!!
Both are rescues and Jo says:

"[Jones] is a recovering agoraphobic so to come back alone we knew it was for a good reason... I ran out and found Les collapsed on the floor with Ellie by his side. I think the dogs saved his life. The dogs mean the world to me and I'm so proud of them. If Jones hadn't have come home, Les could have died."

Rave Review by Buzz

*woof woof, wagging tail* Hello Hello!! My name is Buzz, you may have seen me before in the pictures Michaela is always taking of me in my bandanas? Today I have taken over the Puppy Love blog!! I am so excited to be writing my very own article... and am feeling very important indeed :)

I am here to tell you all about these very clever bells called 'Poochie Bells' that help me let the humans know when I need to go out and spend a penny! They were sent to me by those lovely people at Dougal's Den in the summer and it has taken me a little while to get used to them but now I love them so much! Not only do they look very cool but they are sooo useful!! The ribbon strap just hooks over the door handle (or a hook) and the bells dangle down for us doggies to ring with our noses! They even have little poppers so they can be adjusted to your height! Mine are black & white paw print. I got a little tag to wear on my collar too!

I've never been much of a talker, other than when people come to the house and then I make lots of noise ... well a doggy can't be rude can he?! ... and so often Mummy and Michaela wouldn't know when I needed to go out if it wasn't at one of my usual times of the day. That meant I would sometimes go and do a naughty in the spare room and then get told off... which wasn't nice for me at all & Mummy always looked so sad after she had to tell me off. She often said she wished I could make more noise when I wanted to go out but I just didn't like to bother her and tried to hang on as long as possible. Now with the Poochie Bells, I can go to the door and all I have to do is nudge the bells with my nose and *ring-a-ling-ling* ... Mummy comes to let me out!

The training was very straightforward, but I can get abit confused sometimes so it took me a little bit longer to learn. When I was a little puppy I didn't live here and I got knocked on the head alot by nasty people who wanted me to fight and I think that's why I get muddled. All Mummy had to do was ring them and then give me big hugs and praise ...lovely!!... before I went out and slowly I realised that if I ring them myself I could get more big hugs when I come back in! :) If I've been very good maybe a biscuit too *paws x-d* but my little sister is a genius and pretends to do good things for treats so Mummy can't always give us biscuits... *little sulk* Honey was a little bit scared of the bells to start with and wouldn't come out AT all which was difficult but I think I have managed to reassure her now that they are great and won't hurt her at all. She is still a little wary but as we always go everywhere together, I just ring them for her and she follows me out so long as the door is open and she can't see them. The Poochie Bells really have made such a difference to me and I am so grateful to Lynn & Dougal from Dougal's Den for letting me be their tester. It is a very big honour indeed! They have lots more wonderful things over on their site, so be sure to check it out! Especially as Christmas is coming! Lots of prezzie ideas for us pooches :)  *lots of licks and huggles* B

It's been a while...

We are so sorry it has been sooo long since we last blogged... we have been a little low again over the last few weeks and found it a little hard to keep up with everything so our poor blog has taken the brunt... After-all, we have to keep up with our orders...doggies (and kitties!) of the world need their bandanas!! But it has meant that our blog has been somewhat neglected! Don't normally like to talk about our ongoing battle with depression (which we refuse to give a capital D! lols) and anxiety as it gives power to it... but thought this was the perfect time to highlight one of our favourite charities.. Time To Change.

It really is a great charity, and making such great steps towards ending mental health discrimination & prejudice. There are so many long-standing myths and stigmas associated with mental health ... usually simply because people don't understand it. There is such a big umbrella it encompasses and unlike most physical ailments, you can't always see it & the hurt caused as a result. By visiting the website TimetoChange.org.uk you can get involved in all sorts of ways, one of the simplest ways is to pledge your support .. and all for nowt. No $$! 1 in 5 of us will experience depression at some point in our lives (cheerful stuff huh?! lols ;) ) and the more help and understanding out there for depression and other mental health conditions, the better!! :) You can also follow them on twitter @TimetoChange for updates on events in your area. More on them in a later post as soo much to say...  but for today... a sneaky peak at some of our new fabrics!

We have also got some seasonal prints in...including sppoookkky Halloween & Christmas! Can't wait to get some fab items made up in them... will keep you posted!! :) x x

Collingbourne K9 Festival 2010

So, this Saturday just gone, we went to the Collingbourne K9 Festival at Parsonage Farm in Wiltshire... And we had a super day and met some really wonderful people!! Sadly, the turn-out was hampered by a terrible crash which shut the M4 (the main road in) which meant that the Guinness World Record attempt was out... :( but everyone still did a practice sit!! Lee and our jumper model 'Bruno' even joined in much to the amusement of the crowds!

Claire Lingard, the festival organiser, really did a fantastic job organising the day & there were so many lovely stalls and amusements for the children - including bouncy castles & a laser-quest!! The show had a great country feel to it with haybales to sit on around the ring & even cider! We saw the lovely ladies from Dog's Trust Salisbury again which was brilliant - we had met Lucy's little doggie at Kenilworth but this time Lesley's little bundle of fun came along too :)

Another pair of lovely ladies we met were Sarah & her mum Jennie from The Enchanted Tree. We had a good ol' natter & giggle with them & bought a gorgeous mobile of hens for our kitchen. All their items are fair-trade & our little hens were made by a women's co-operative in Kenya :) . The site is the-enchanted-tree.co.uk & is soooo worth a visit! Brilliant prices & a great range of goods from mobiles to shopping bags to hand knitted kenyan toys! Plus all natural & ethical too - what more could you ask for?! Here's a sneaky preview of 2 of our faves and see more pics & our hens after the jump... xx >>

"Write a post, help a dog" - the Pedigree Adoption Drive Blog Hop! #Dogsrule

This weekend has been the special Pedigree Adoption Drive Blog Hop. For every blog post made Pedigree will donate a 20lb bag of dog food to an animal shelter!! What a brilliant idea! Animal shelters are always under a great deal of financial pressure no matter how big or small & donations like these will make a big difference :)

  • Each year, more than 4 million dogs end up in shelters and breed rescue organizations. Pedigree created The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive to help shine a spotlight on the plight of these homeless dogs.
  • This year the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive is raising awareness for homeless dogs by donating a bowl of food to shelter dogs for everyone who becomes a "Fan" or "Likes" the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive on Facebook. So far more than 1 million bowls have been donated.
  • Special for BlogPaws West: For each blog that posts about the PEDIGREE Adoption Drive through September 19, PEDIGREE will donate a bag of its new Healthy Longevity Food for Dogs to shelters nationwide. It's simple: Write a post, help a dog.
  • Thursday, September 16 through Sunday, September 19, the Pedigree BlogPaws bloggers will host a Blog Hop to help raise awareness for the "Write a post, help a dog" effort.
Be sure to pass the message on by blogging, tweeting & facebooking with the hashtag #dogsrule :) Join up to the blog hop too after the jump... xx

Little & Large

Check out these cutie-pies! Boo Boo, a tiny little chihuahua girl, weighs just 2 pounds and stands 4 inches tall and is the world's smallest doggie. Yesterday at Central Park in New York, she met George... the world's largest dog! He weighs 245 pounds & stands 43 inches tall!! Boo Boo's owner, Lana, said she is her little miracle after vet's did not expect her to make it. When she was born she was just an ounce! George is a gentle giant who sleeps on a queen size mattress at the end of his owners' bed & loves to play. The two got on well and Boo Boo was not scared of him - she went over to say to hello! Cute!! x x

If you would like to part of a Guinness World Record, come down to the Collingbourne K9 Festival on Saturday 18th and be part of the largest simultaneous sit!! We will be there with our stall in the shopping village & would love to meet you! :) x

Super-Staffy!

This weekend a very brave Staffy chased off 3 armed burglars in Wigan! The men broke into the family home with a gun and attacked the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and then his human sister but he wasn't put off and chased them away down the street. Bless his brave little lion heart! The breed get such a bad name in the press, so it is so lovely to see a positive story ♥ Click the title link above for the full story.

This coming weekend, the 18th, is the Collingbourne K9 Festival which is supporting 2 very deserving Staffy charities... Wiltshire Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue & Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue and PUPPY LOVE will be there! Yay! We are so looking forward to the whole day & the Guinness World Record Attempt. Be sure to tell all your friends & anipals to come along if they can to take part! x x

Busy bunnies!

We have been very busy the last few days... getting ready for and then restocking after the Greyhound Gala on Sunday. Northants Greyhound Rescue did a great job organising a fab day out for doggies & their owners! The weather was a little challenging... it was sooo windy!! Lols! And we were treated to showers but just like at Jerry Green it didn't dampen anyone's spirits & then we had some gorgeous sunshine as a reward in the closing hours...

We made some lovely new friends too - Lisa, Teagan & their gorgeous Greyhound girl from Dog 'O' Nine Tails who make Greyhound collars & other crafty bits. We were sorely tempted for one for Mr Buzz and will be measuring him up at Xmas for sure! x x

Jerry Green Fun Day

Today was the Jerry Green Fun Day at Brixworth, Northamptonshire! And doing exactly as promised...it was lots of fun!! :) The weather was not kind today with near gale-force winds & torrential rain showers but it didn't dampen anyone's spirits & everything carried on as if we were basking in tropical sunshine. The marquees just about stayed pinned down and after the storm we got some lovely sunshine to dry off in! There were so many lovely bits to do & see including doggie healing, a fortune teller, bric-a-brac from just 10p (!!!) & agility training classes. And as if that wasn't enough, a full dog show! So many lovely doggies came along it made it very hard for the judges to choose winners. Our handsome greyhound friend Jake won his 2nd award in less than 10 days, coming 3rd in the puppy class. Yaay! We loved meeting all the dogs and their owners & had a great time. Looking forward to seeing how much money was raised for the centre - they really do work sooo hard & help so many doggies who without their intervention would have been sent to doggie-heaven early *leaky eyes*. If you would like to donate, click here! x x

A Brilliant Birthday

Yesterday was my 26th birthday & I really had a lovely day. I am such a lucky girl to have such wonderful family & friends  ♥ Lee really spoilt me this year *blush* with these AMAZING Vivienne Westwood Melissa Ultra Girl Shoes AND a Paul's Boutique hoodie!! It's a really fab one too ... with 'have a nice day' smiley & 'LOVE' patches and diamonte lightning bolts all across the back! *squeal*

Arsenal were even kind enough to win for me against Blackburn before we went for dins at Fusion here in Northampton with Mum, Peggilini, Nicola & Mark. It really is a great restaurant with such a huge choice from the buffet - my faves were mini vegi spring-rolls, chocolate & cream cups and the gorgeous pineapple sorbet. Afterwards we went downstairs to Fuse, the basement level bar, where they have a seperate 'powder room' complete with hair straighteners to use free of charge!! Very impressed! Check out their website ... www.fusion-fuse.co.uk/ ... we didn't get in until 1am! Gasp! We had the Jerry Green Fun Day to do today! Lols x x

Love for London

On Friday we headed to the bright lights of London for a girly day out with Mum & Nicola and we had sooo much fun! Besides admiring the pretties of Harrods' jewellery departments & the beeeautiful Chanel collections *wistful sigh* we all went crazy for the 'Pet Kingdom' dept. on the 4th floor which was choc-a-blocka full of woof-a-licious designer beds, clothes & toys including Roberto Cavalli's very glamorous pet collection ...BUT then we saw that they also sell puppies and were not happy AT ALL!! Very angry indeed that puppies for sale in a department store. They are behind glass and in a 'reasonable' size space which we assume & sincerely hope is air conditioned etc but there is no daylight, mama dog OR love and attention. It isn't nice at all to have people staring at them like they are in a fish bowl and taking pictures despite the 'no pictures' signs... not a good start in life even if it is in the most famous & expensive store in the world. We assume that they must have been checked out by the RSPCA but who stays with them at night etc??  If anyone knows anything, letting us know would be greatly appreciated - the cashier didn't really want to talk about it so we left. Really do not think it's neccessary to have them in there at all - purely gimmic. Hmmpff!!!

*and breathe...*
Other doggie-themed wares in the famous gold & green store included aprons, brollies & of course the Harrods doggie himself on EVERYthing you can imagine. Here are couple of our faves... although sadly the electric lighting has given all my pics from inside a funny orange glow...eek!

After our little outrage we headed to the Manolo shop where a very chic little chihuahua was shopping with her mum... unfortunately she was camera shy ... unlike Nic who can be seen here modelling her gorgeous new boots from the AW collection:

Also fell in looove with this doggie themed jumper & these yummy (and surely mega mega expensive!) cakes before having a lovely lady from the Mac counter show us how to contour our cheeks!! Lols x x

Wonderful Weekend!

We have had such a lovely bank holiday weekend so far! Our day out in London, Birthday fun, Jerry Green Fun Day... far too much to cram into one post so... day-by-day posts coming up!! x x

Thursday, 26 August 2010

We have missed you!!

Our computer has been poorly sick for a whole week & sadly still hasn't been fixed! *fingers x-d will be soon though!*  That's why we've been AWOL! But my lovely Mummy has lent hers for a few days so we are back... yaay!!

And it's an exciting few days for us ... this Friday we are going to the Big Smoke for a day out admiring Manolos & visiting the Harrods doggie, then Saturday is my birthday (Eek!) & most importantly on Sunday it's... the Jerry Green Fun Day!! Yaaay!! We are very excited about it!! It is going to be lovely & hoping lots of the lovely dogs there will find their forever home. The Market Square Dog Show was great & we loved meeting all the doggies and their owners. I just found out that the day raised just over £1000 for Animals in Need which is fab news :) I will be uploading photos later today.

Buzzy is still training to use his Poochie Bells but the rain has been a little bit of a problem... he has always hated the rain & wet and getting him out is a challenge but we are getting there. Honey is still scared of the bells but we are working hard to get her used to them! Think making some progress :) x x

Collingbourne K9 Festival

PUPPY LOVE is going to be at the Collingbourne K9 Festival on September 18th at Parsonage Farm, Wiltshire!! It is the very 1st year of the festival & we are very excited to be taking part indeed. Money will be raised for Help for Heroes, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Wiltshire Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue & Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue. There will be a Kennel Club Licensed Dog Show with 18 classes, a 'Max-Factor' talent competition, food & drinks stalls, charity & trade stalls PLUS a Guinness World Record Attempt!! It is for the "the Largest Simultaneous Dog Stay" and starts at 1pm. The record is for the greatest number of dogs who ‘stay’ successfully at a single venue. The current record (as of 31st May 2010) was 627 dogs at an event called “Super Sit” organised by the RSPCA at the Wag and Bone Show, Windsor Great Park (UK) on the 6 August 2005. If you can make it, come along and help beat the record!! It looks like going to be such a fun day!! For more details click on the link below x x

A Busy Weekend!

Phew...! We have been rather busy again this weekend... in between dodging the ma-husive thunder storm & bucketfuls of rain mother nature bestowed  on us, we have made a new batch of scottie dog cushions, oilcloth pegbags & have trialled a new product... the draft excluder!! Pics of that to come in the next few days!!

We also rehomed this not-so-little guy from the Cancer Research Charity shop....

His name is Henry and he is our new Large & Extra Large bandana model!! You can meet him on our stall at this Sunday's Northampton Market Dog Show & the Jerry Green Fun Day on August 29th

You may have been wondering how Buzz is getting on with his Poochie Bells ... well he has given them his 1st cautious little nudge so we think he is making progress... yaay! Although the rain is still a problem - he just hates it & it's such a problem when trying to get him out *sigh* but we will get there. Honey on the other hand is not at all scared of water...but is scared of the Poochie Bells so we are working on getting her used to them! xx

Birthday Girl!

Today is Honey's 4th birthday! Yaay! We made her a special party dress ... white cotton jersey with a black lace skirt and baby pink glittery trim PLUS 3 polka-dotty & rosebud bows down the back... very girly & pretty!

And not wanting to be left out, Buzzy donned a pair of wings for the party... lols! Although we're not sure he looks as cute as Mops the Pug, who we met at Dog's Trust Salisbury's Fun Day, did in hers...

Birthday girl even did some dancingAfter aLOT of yummy treats (including some doggie birthday cake!!) & dressing up fun, though, she was cream-crackered!! xx

"Night night lil sis!" -Buzz
P.s. Honey would like to know what you think of her dress please? Is she a trend-setter? x
